Discover, Learn and Grow
Preparing your child to read does not start on the first day of kindergarten, but begins as soon as your child is born. Important brain development occurs between birth and the age of three. Stories, music, and rhymes stimulate brain growth. From ages three to five, the connections in the brain are strengthened by continuing these same activities.
The library offers entertaining story times that are fun learning experiences for both parent and child. Story times are language enrichment programs using the pre-reading skills that are part of the Ohio Ready to Read initiative. During story times, we focus on developing amp; nurturing children’s love of books and reading, as well as focusing on giving parents tips.
Our story times are typically offered for three different age groups, baby, toddler andamp; preschool, as each of these groups represents distinctive developmental phases.

Story Time Offerings by Age Groups
Baby Story Times: for ages 6 months to age 2
Baby story times are a start on the path literacy. Parents and babies attend this lap-sit program together.Lots of repetition is used in baby story time because it helps babies start to remember. At different developmental stages, children begin to react to and understand rhymes, stories, and songs in different ways. Learn classic rhymes and songs to share with your child. Afterwards, parents and children are welcome to stay and play with developmentally-appropriate toys.
Toddler Story Times: for ages 2 and 3
Toddler story times are lap-sit programs for parents and toddlers to participate in together. In these sessions, we’ll enjoy books, puppets, songs, music, and movement activities while incorporating pre-reading skills. Toddler story times are a wonderful way to continue developing your child’s love of books through activities. It is also a way for parents to learn how to achieve expressive responses from their children during shared reading times at home.
Preschool Story Times: for ages 4 and 5
Preschool story times take pre-reading skills to the next level with activities focused on the preschoolers themselves. Since preschoolers have longer attention spans, we share longer books with more in-depth stories, and use more interactive elements to bring books to life and build narrative skills. We enjoy fun songs, music, rhymes, movement activities, puppets, prop storytelling and more. Games and activities that use vocabulary, letter knowledge, and play with the smaller sounds in words are part of the fun, too. |
