As part of the Greene County Public Library located in Xenia, Ohio, the Greene County Room (GCR) houses one of the largest collections of local history and genealogy in southwest Ohio. This research collection contains information about Greene County, all other Ohio counties, and includes out-of-state and international resources. All GCR materials are non-circulating and are not available through inter-library loan. A staff member is always present to assist researchers. Also, researchers can request information by using regular mail or e-mail. Although the staff is unable to do extensive research, a specific reference question can be answered. Any photocopying will be billed to the researcher. Located on the second floor of the library, the research area accommodates up to 25 researchers at a time. Microfilm and microfiche readers and printers are available. To use computer workstations offering CD-ROM resources and Internet access requires a valid Greene County Public Library card and a signed "Acceptable Use Policy" (AUP). Electrical outlets are next to the study tables for researchers with laptop computers. Most materials can be photocopied for a nominal fee. Fragile materials, however, cannot be photocopied. The duplication of manuscripts and photographs for the use in publications requires permission from the Archivist. The Greene County Room is open the same hours as the Xenia Library: Mon., Tues., & Thur., Noon to 8 p.m. Free parking is located behind the library building. The library is located in downtown Xenia and is close to several restaurants and motels.
