Borrowing Policies

Due Dates

  • All materials are due in three weeks except videos, DVDs, console games, KEY kits, Express books and art.
  • Videos, DVDs, console games, KEY kits and Express books are due in one week.
  • Art is due in six weeks.

Renewing Materials

  • An item may be renewed five times if there are no requests for it.
  • Express books may not be renewed.
  • Renew materials by accessing your account online using the My Account service
    or call (937) 374-1396.

Notices

Notices are sent by phone, e-mail or mail when an item is three days overdue. Choose how you want to receive notices at the check-out desk or by calling your library.

Overdue Fines

  • Juvenile and Teen books – no overdue charge
  • Art - 10 cents/day per item, $10 maximum per item
  • Resource Sharing: OCLC, WorldCat and SearchOhio: 50 cents/day per item, $5 maximum per item
  • Any other materials - 10 cents/day per item, $5 maximum per item

When an item is either 10 or 24 days overdue, depending on the type of item, you’ll be billed for the replacement cost of the item. Accounts with more than $30 in materials and fines may be turned over to a collection agency and a collection fee will be added to your account.

Patrons sixty years of age and older, holders of Golden Buckeye cards, and homebound patrons served by the Outreach Services department are excused from paying fines. All patrons are required to pay charges for lost or damaged items, and fines or damages for Resource Sharing materials and Express books.

The Greene County Public Library:

  • allows Ohio residents to have a library card.
  • allows cardholders the right to borrow any materials the library loans.
  • protects the privacy of borrowers’ records by releasing information about those records only to the holder of the library card or a designate.* Parents and legal guardians of a minor child may access the account of the child after providing photo identification and completing a designate form. • automatically deletes the titles of materials borrowed when the materials are returned, unless the cardholder has opted in to have a reading history saved to his account.*
  • keeps confidential the information stored on computers, or records created as result of computer use.*

* Requests for disclosure of information will be honored only when required by local, state or federal law.

New Library Cards

A new cardholder may borrow two items on the first visit and ten items after receiving the card in the mail. Full borrowing privileges are granted after three months.

Your Library Account

Your library card is valid for one year and expires on your birthday. To renew it, stop at the check-out desk.

Report a lost or stolen card to the library as soon as possible. You’re responsible for items checked out on your card up to the time your card is reported lost or stolen. A replacement card costs $1.

  • use the My Account feature on the library website
  • call the library during operating hours and provide your library card number
  • ask at the check-out desk
